Every piece lists its clay, capacity and forming method. Open one for close-ups, seals and notes.
From raw ore to finished pot: four stages, none of them skippable.
The aged clay is kneaded repeatedly, then beaten into a slab of even thickness with a wooden paddle. An uneven slab means a weak body that warps in the kiln.
The slab is wrapped into a cylinder, supported inside by the left hand and paddled upward from the base with the right. Fully handmade round ware depends entirely on the maker's feel for pressure.
A buffalo-horn scraper is worked over the surface again and again, pressing the sand grains down and drawing fine slurry up. This step decides the sheen the pot will develop over years of use.
Temperature follows the clay: vermilion around 1060°C, purple and duani clays 1180–1200°C. Each shrinks differently, so each carries its own risk.
Raw ore from Huanglong Mountain only — no additives, no artificial colouring.
The most common and the most rewarding over time, firing to chestnut and purplish brown. Balanced breathability suits pu-erh and black tea. Dicaoqing is the finest grade, recognisable by its tiny "chicken-eye" grains.
With shrinkage of 18–30%, barely three of ten green bodies survive the kiln. Highly vitrified, it holds heat and lifts aroma — ideal for rock tea and Phoenix Dan Cong.
Needs a hard fire, coming out rice-yellow to blue-grey. Its open pore structure keeps green tea fresh without stealing its fragrance, and it ages to a warm, creamy tone.
